Ask any PE teacher, holiday camp leader or parent with a back garden what makes a summer afternoon, and rounders comes up time and again. It's quick to set up, everyone gets a go, and it works just as well with a class of thirty as it does with a family of four. That's exactly why our Complete Rounders Set has been our best-selling product over the last three months.
It's built for schools, youth groups, coaches and families who want a proper game without having to buy bits and pieces separately. Open the bag and you're ready to play.
Key features
The set brings together everything you need to mark out a pitch and get going:
- Everything in one bag: one wooden bat, one soft rounders ball and four marker cones, all packed into a heavy-duty nylon carry bag.
- 18-inch wooden bat: made from durable wood with a premium finish, designed to stand up to big hits season after season.
- Non-slip handle: a specialised grip gives players of all ages a secure, comfortable hold, which helps with control and accuracy through the swing.
- Soft rounders ball: safe and accessible for younger children and school settings, while still giving you good bounce and flight.
- Lightweight and portable: the whole set weighs just 0.55kg, so it's easy to carry to the park, the beach or the far end of the playing field, and simple to store over winter.
- Suitable for all ages: from younger children through to adults, and well suited to school use.
Where it gets used
Because it's light, simple and all-in-one, this set turns up in all sorts of places:
- PE lessons: a quick-to-set-up striking and fielding game that keeps a whole class involved, whether you're on the field or the playground.
- Holiday camps and youth clubs: a reliable go-to activity for mixed ages and abilities, with very little explaining needed before the first ball is bowled.
- Garden and park play: four cones down, teams picked, and the family is playing in minutes. It packs back into the bag when the ice creams come out.
- Club socials and sports days: rugby, football and hockey clubs often use rounders as a summer social or an end-of-season fun day that gets parents and players mixing.
- Cross-training for bat-and-ball sports: coaches use rounders to build striking and catching skills that carry over into baseball, softball and cricket.
Skills it helps you learn
Rounders looks simple, but it develops a surprising range of core sport skills. Here are five to focus on, each with one easy practice you can run with just the contents of the bag.
1. Batting technique
Good batting is about a steady stance, watching the ball and a smooth, level swing. The 18-inch bat is easy for younger players to manage, so they can concentrate on technique rather than wrestling with the bat.
Drill – Cone target hitting: place two cones about five metres apart in front of the batter to make a "gate". A feeder gently underarm-bowls the ball and the batter tries to hit it through the gate. Five goes each, then swap. Move the gate left or right to practise placing shots.
2. Hand-eye coordination
Tracking a moving ball and making contact is a building block for almost every ball sport, from tennis to hockey.
Drill – Bat and bounce: each player holds the bat flat and tries to bounce the soft ball on its face as many times as they can without it dropping. Count the best score, then challenge players to beat it next session.
3. Catching and fielding
In rounders, a clean catch gets a batter out, so good fielding wins games. The soft ball gives nervous catchers the confidence to get their hands in the way.
Drill – Catch and step back: in pairs, players throw the ball underarm to each other. After every successful catch, both take one step back. Drop it, and you both return to the start. Encourage "soft hands" and watching the ball all the way in.
4. Throwing accuracy
Getting the ball to the right base quickly is what stops batters scoring. Accurate, controlled throws matter more than big ones.
Drill – Hit the cone: set out the four cones in a square. Players take turns throwing at a named cone from a set distance, scoring a point for every hit. Increase the distance as accuracy improves.
5. Running, decision-making and teamwork
Batters have to decide in a split second whether to run, and fielders have to work together to back up throws and cover bases. It's great for communication.
Drill – Run or stay: play a short game where the batting side must call "run" or "stay" out loud for each batter after the hit. Fielders must call the name of the base they're throwing to. It slows the game down just enough for younger players to think, talk and play as a team.
Choosing the right option
This one's easy: the Complete Rounders Set comes as a single, all-in-one bundle, so there are no sizes or colours to choose between. Every set includes the 18-inch wooden bat, soft rounders ball, four marker cones and the nylon carry bag.
A few practical tips when ordering:
- Schools and camps: if you're running several games at once, or want to split a big group into smaller teams so everyone gets more turns, it's worth having one set per pitch.
- Families: one set is all you need for garden or park games, and the bag makes it easy to leave in the car boot for days out.
- Clubs: keep a set in the clubhouse for socials, summer sessions and fun days.
